Bone people: The explorers of the Parisian catacombs

The remains of more than six million people are buried in a vast network of tunnels below Paris, France. People who call themselves 'cataphiles' visit the catacombs illegally and occasionally hold underground parties. Skulls and bones are arranged to form the walls of the tunnels in the Paris Catacombs. Circa 1900. Bones from the Saints-Innocents cemetery were moved to the catacombs after the cemetery began overflowing with remains.Parts of the catacomb network date back to medieval times.These subterranean quarries that make up the catacombs had been used to store the remains of generations of Parisians in a bid to cope with the overcrowding of Paris' cemeteries at the end of the 18th century.A pile of bones and skulls sits in the Paris Catacombs. This couple was discovered in an archeological site when the Ancient Roman palace in the Italian town of Mutina was being excavated. Now known as Modena, this town is a gold mine for the anthropologists. When this site was excavated a female and male skeletons were found displaying, even in the grave the most perfect example of eternal love. Their skeletons are laid out in the manner where  it is plenty clear that the couple held hands while being buried and they probably were looking in to each others’ eyes since they are still lying in the same manner. The male’s head seemed to have bobbed off, to which speculation says that the cushion beneath his head must have decomposed causing the head shift, but the woman’s skeleton still shows her facing towards him holding hands in their final moments.
