Sunken Cities Of The Ancient World

Port Royal, Jamaica Once referred to as the ‘Wickedest City on Earth’ (because of its rampant piracy, prostitution and rum consumption), part of Port Royal sank after an earthquake in 1692. The ruins scattered in the Kingston Harbor, and currently, the remains of the city encompasses 13 acres at depths of up to 40 feet. Archaeological investigations of the site began in 1981, led by the Nautical Archaeology Program of Texas A&M University. The investigations unearthed historical documents, organic artefacts and vast amount of architectural debris. Yonaguni-Jima, Japan Some 68 miles past the east coast of Taiwan, off the coast of Yonaguni Islands, a sunken ruin was discovered by a sport diver, in 1995. The ruins are estimated to be around 8,000 years old, however, it is still unclear which missing city they made up. The most spectacular discovery amongst the submerged ruins is a large pyramid structure, finely designed archways resembling the Inca civilizatio

Mount Roraima is the highest of the Pakaraima mountain chain in South America. The 31 square kilometer summit area is defined by 400 meter tall cliffs on all sides and includes the borders of Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana. The tabletop mountains of the Pakaraima’;s are considered some of the oldest  geological formations on Earth, dating back to some two billion years ago.

This article lists the most visited art museums in the world (i.e. all museums with any form of art on display, some museums such as the Natural History Museum are excluded). This list of 100 is based on "2010 worldwide museum attendance numbers" compiled by The Art Newspaper published in April 2011. The country with the highest number of visitors in the top 100 is the United Kingdom. The country with the most museums appearing in the top 100 is the United States. Several major art museums, such as the Palace Museum in Beijing, which annually draws 7 million visitors, the Musée d'Histoire de France in the Palace of Versailles with 5,659,606 annual visitors in 2009, the Vatican Museums of Rome, with 5,078,004 visitors in 2011,and the National Palace Museum in Taipei, with 3,441,238 visitors in 2010,were not included.
